NMTL LiFT Series Sets Sail into the Spanish-speaking World
After nearly three years of translation and editorial work, the Spanish editions of Taiwanese literature co-produced by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) and the renowned Spanish publisher Visor Libros will be officially released in June 2026.
The project is the outcome of the "Project 2023 for the Promotion, Translation and Publication of Taiwanese Literature in Spain (2023–2026)", commissioned by NMTL to Taipei Medical University, directed by Prof. Luisa Shu-Ying Chang (張淑英) and co-directed by Prof. Luisa Cheng-Fan Chen (陳正芳), in collaboration with Taiwanese and Spanish translators and specialists from the Hispanic academic world. Two anthologies will appear:
❶ Antología de cuentos taiwaneses contemporáneos (Anthology of Contemporary Taiwanese Fiction) 11 stories by 11 authors, organised by period of creation. The texts engage with colonial experience, the avant-garde, realism, body and desire, and gender identity — a journey through more than seventy years of Taiwanese literature.
❷ Antología de la poesía taiwanesa contemporánea (Anthology of Contemporary Taiwanese Poetry) 47 poems by 43 poets, from the Japanese colonial period to the early 21st century. In bilingual Chinese–Spanish format, this is the most complete anthology of modern Taiwanese poetry ever published in Spanish.
NMTL's LiFT — Literature from Taiwan series has already released 34 books in 7 languages. These two anthologies make Spanish the series' 8th language and mark a historic milestone: the Museum's first foray into the Spanish-speaking world.
A Spanish edition of Breve historia de la literatura taiwanesa (A Concise History of Taiwanese Literature), co-authored in Spanish by Profs. Chang and Chen, is also forthcoming in the second half of the year.
