Event Summary

On November 25, 2022, the Taiwanese Association of Hispanists hosted its 11th online workshop, "DELE in Taiwan: Experience Sharing and Exam Preparation Strategies." Moderated by Professor Laura Vela Almendros (Wenzao), the event attracted over 140 participants. Three speakers—two veteran examiners and a high-level candidate—provided comprehensive advice on the structure, grading criteria, and preparation techniques for the DELE exam from levels A1 to C2.

Presentation Highlights

1. Preparing for the DELE Exam in Taiwan

Speaker: Mr. Miguel Rubio Lastra (Lecturer at Tunghai University, Senior DELE Examiner) Highlights:

  • Structural Analysis: Analyzed the difficulty distribution across levels, noting that B1/B2 challenges lie in reading and writing, while C1/C2 focus on listening and reading.
  • Exam Techniques: Emphasized the importance of outlining and note-taking, and suggested using Spanish music and films to become familiar with various accents.
  • Scoring Insight: Reminded candidates of the scoring groups (Reading/Writing and Listening/Speaking each worth 50 points, requiring a minimum score in both).

2. Facing the Oral Production Challenge in DELE

Speaker: Mr. Jorge Marcos González Martínez (Lecturer at National Taipei University of Business, Certified Cervantes Institute Examiner) Highlights:

  • Grading Criteria: Deeply analyzed oral exam criteria, including fluency, lexical variety, and grammatical accuracy.
  • Genre Differences: Noted that A2 writing focuses on narrative, while B1 requires expository writing, urging candidates to tailor their preparation accordingly.
  • Practical Advice: Encouraged taking mock exams, choosing familiar topics, and recommended professional prep books like "¡Dale al DELE!".

3. DELE Experience Sharing: From Preparation to Practice

Speaker: Mr. Adrián Chia-Hsiang Wang (Graduate Student at FJU, DELE C1 Certified) Highlights:

  • Time Management: Shared how to allocate time effectively during the exam to remain calm and focused.
  • Building a Database: Suggested creating personal vocabulary lists, focusing on synonyms, antonyms, and connectors, and using idioms in writing.
  • Mindset: Discussed the difference between "having the level" and "having the diploma," encouraging students to read novels and newspapers to master native-like written expression.
